Acne Cures
|
We define acne as a disorder in the skin, being a result from overproducing hormones in the oil-producing glands of the skin. Acne is common among teenagers and young adults, but it can also affect adults, infants and animals. Acne has been around for centuries, and over the years people have dealt with the disease by using various acne cures. The main question though, is: Are acne cures possible?
The market seems littered with so called “acne cures”, and everywhere you look, be it your local supermarket, or websites on the internet, you are bound to find plenty of so called “acne cures”. If you ask a dermatologist or someone involved in medical research, they will most probably tell you, that no such thing as an “acne cure” really exists. While many acne medicines, such as accutane, can provide some relief, long or short term, for some acne patients, experts argue that there is no such thing as a real acne cure, that cures acne for all patients.
Even as the majority of medical experts claims that a real acne cure is not yet available, many people have found ways to cure their acne, partially or fully, with certain medicines or other methods. Some methods include products like non-prescription acne cleansers, astringents, moisturizers and pimple creams. Some of these products, by some people deemed “acne cures”, are available at local drug stores. Some of these help unplug the pores, getting rid of white- and blackheads, and others help the skin peel off.
Beside these products, by many deemed as “acne cures”, you can find topical antibiotics, available by prescription only. These products fight the acne infections by killing off the bacteria that infect the pores, and are therefor deemed “acne cures” by many patients and experts alike. In some cases, however, the acne has been known to become resistant to these antibiotics, making these acne cures pretty much useless after a while. They are also known to have several harsh side effects, amongst which we find redness, irritation and dryness.
Another form of medication that by many is considered an acne cure, is oral antibiotics. Some of the side effects of this so called acne cure however, since it is known to affect the whole body, are dizziness and nausea.
Another by many deemed great form of acne cure, is some vitamin A derivatives. These can prevent the skin cells from clumping together, and help the skin shed. Just like the topical antibiotics however, these derivatives are known to possibly cause redness, irritation and dryness of the skin. This so called acne cure have also been reported to cause some birth defects and psychological disorders.
The strongest key, whatever your view on these “acne cures” may be, is still prevention. Hygiene, proper cleaning and cleanliness will help preventing most small acne outbreaks. Remember, “Prevention is always Better than Cure”.
