Acne does not only affect teenagers, it also appears among adults. Lots of women get upset and embarassed when they discover pimples at the age of 30-40. Most adults that develop acne develop a type of acne known as acne rosacea.
Acne rosacea is a chronic, long term form of adult acne that not only affects the skin, but sometimes also the eyes. It is recognized by pimples, redness and thickened skin at its advanced stage. Typically though, it affects the face. Other parts of the upper body are more rarely affected….
In the United States alone, acne rosacea is reported to approximately affect as many as 14 million people. Acne rosacea is reported to mostly affect adults between the ages of 30 and 60. Acne rosacea is also more frequent among women than men, especially during the menopause. It seems that acne rosacea mainly affects and is most obvious on people with fair complexion, although it is known to affect people of any skin type and color.
Among the numerous conditions and symptoms associated with acne rosacea, many afflicted by the disorder have frequent flushing, vascular rosacea, inflammatory rosacea and several other disorder involving skin, nose and eyes. Basically, the frequent flushing occurs in the early stage of acne rosacea, and is always linked with a burning sensation, especially when different creams and cosmetics are applied to the face.
Vascular rosacea causes persistent flushing and redness. This is because the blood vessels under the skin enlarges, therefor showing through the skin as thin red lines.
The acne rosacea variation inflammatory rosacea causes persistent redness, pustules (pusfilled bumps on the skin), and papules (different sized pink bumps on the skin). This variation of acne rosacea has also been known to cause eye inflammation and higher sensitivity in the eyes, sometimes followed by telangiectasia.
As of now, the real cause of acne rosacea is still to be discovered. It is however believed that some hereditary factors may be involved - since it has been noted in some cases that people with acne rosacea has parents with the same condition. People who blush frequently are also believed to be more likely to develop acne rosacea.
